Filifin "Siran"

Filifin was born about thirty years ago in the village, in the south west of Mali, at the frontier with his father; player gave him this knowledge stemmed from the culture of Malian "hunters". Mix of praises to the courageous game hunters and melancholy melodies of the bushes, the lyrics and the styles, masculine and passionate, give birth to music with very particular blues accent.

Filifin develops in this first album his own way of playing, he plays and sings with this heritage and update it with vigour. The album has been recorded in duet with N'Gou Bagayoko playing the guitar. The particular atmosphere of this duet comes from the play of the Kamalé n'goni and of the guitar. The guitar inspires him from it and adds the rhythmic "Didadi" of Bougouni. Predilection town of this dancing and joyful style, Bougouni is the place where the two musicians met and recorded.

The powerful voice of Filifin carries the haunting melodies of the bush; she sings, nostalgic and courageous, the words of ordeal, the questions and the good advice. The guitar colours the Kamalé n'goni with a strange familiar but confidential accompaniment. To complete, the carignan (a small instrument in metal) give the rhythm to this duet of strings and voice.

Filifin gives us a deep journey in the rural land where bravery and generosity of spirit constitute the climate for the blooming of this popular and daily music. The album was produced by Frédéric Galliano for the label Frikyiwa in the heart of Mali in January 2002.
