MARIA
SIDIBE ALIAS SADIO, ARTIST The imposing presence of the gazelle She shines like a shooting star among the new revelations of the music at the beginning of this year. Sadio Sidibé initially appeared to the Malian public as an incomparable dancer and a talented chorus-singer. But, today, she occupies the front of the scene with a respectable musical first attempt: "Diama"; a first album which already creates sensation by the music lovers. "I had the passion of music. But, today I fell in love with this art ", explains Maria Sidibé, one of the best revelations of the Malian music of the beginning of this year. One feels the effects of this passion and love for music and dance in her first attempt: "Diama". A sparkling album produced by Parè Production (Alassane Soumaoro) and distributed by Aly Landouré, which leads you straight on to the pure musical sources of Mande and Wassoulou. At the menu of this opus which is available on the market since last February, eight marvellous titles which refer to the Eros, salubrity, the greatness of Mali. "Natan" and "Diarabi" are already enjoyed by the music lovers because they are at the top of the hits on the radios. But, do not hesitate at all to listen to "Diagnè Môgô", "Djebulu", "Sorofé" or "Diama". This last title celebrates humanism, the cousinship with jokes, solidarity, tolerance… which make of the Mali a real haven of peace. "I did not travel much, but I know that many people envy the Malians", said Sadio with her timid voice. With the step of a gazelle and a delightful smile, Sadio appears timid and reserved. But, paradoxically, this timidity and reserve hatches a strong personality and a precocious wisdom. As many children born of disadvantaged backgrounds, her talks are made of humility and modesty. Her artistic course is very atypical. Maria of her real name (she is called Sadio because she is the junior of twins), was very early impassioned for the dance. "I could not resist the rhythm of the djembe and the balafon". This passion for dance made that she never could stay on the benches of school. At seven years old, she already was a local star that few girls dared to face on the "Fèrew" (public spaces where the cultural events take place in villages) of Birigo/Gwanta (Kita); a fact that is hardly surprising for anyone who knows her origins. In the maternal family, they are professional singer from mother to daughter like Fanta Sidibé, her grandmother, and Fanta Sidibé, the happy mother of the gazelle of Birigo. Better, Paul, his elder brother who presently lives in France, is a virtuoso of the kamelen n’goni and djembé. Her junior sister then becomes quickly his accomplice on scene. At 12 years, Sadio is retained in the troop of Birigo for the local week of arts and the culture of Kita. Best revelation (dance) of the meeting, she seduces so much that the numerous requests will force her to leave her village for the city of the peanut (Kita).Veritable favourite, she spawns herself easily a way towards regional notoriety. It is in Kita that the professional singer Sali Sidibé discovered her. "She had come in Kita for a concert. During the entire spectacle, I could not stay in place because I had ants in the legs. And Sali started to sing her title "Nakagnagami", I could not resist because it was one of my preferred songs. I climbed on the scene. She was so filled of wonder that she sought to know me. We discovered that her guitarist, Djélimakan Kouyaté, was a friend of my brother Paul. With the agreement of my parents, I followed Sali and Djélimakan in Bamako ", explains the elegant dancer. But, with Sali, the adventure turned short because the child of Birigo did not feel at her ease in the group. Always taking care of his sister to allow her to appease her passion, Paul then found her a place in the troop "Babemba" managed by Soumaïla Coulibaly. Maria illustrates herself quickly not only for her talent, but also for her passion and love for dance. "Within this group, I finally could produce the plenitude of my talent. The framing of Soumaïla enabled me to improve my technique a lot, especially on the level of the scenic control", explains the assiduous pupil. Following a selection carried out by a Senegalese choreographer, she had also integrated the company of ballet dancing of Kettly Noël; this enabled her to cumulate traditional and contemporary dance. Unfortunately, social difficulties forced her to give up. The fact remains that she will never cease conquering the scene and the music lovers because several artists trusted in her for the choreography of their clips and videos. Thus, she had the chance to evolve at the sides of the very famous artists Coumba Sidibé, Djénèba Diakité, Sali Sidibé, Ramata Diakité, Doussou Bagayogo, Coumba Sira Koïta, Djénèba Sidibé, Broulaye Camara and late Seydou Camara. It is her seriousness, her talent and her passion that won her the privilege to release an album. "When I worked with Ramata Diakité, her guitarist Amadou Bosso remarked me. If I were sure of my talents of dancer, I wasn’t at all when it was question of singing. It is Amadou and Ramata who gave me this confidence and pushed me to release an album ", explains the young artist. Maria Sadio Sidibé put much on this first attempt. "With Diama, my ambition is to confirm the notoriety dance already won me. My dream is to become a star like Oumou Sangaré, Ramata Diakité, Coumba Sidibé, Doussou Bagayogo…", she said. The gazelle is also conscious that to succeed, she must face "the crocodiles" of the show biz and the pirates. "The young artists must give each other the hand to fight actively against the piracy. It’s time that we change of strategy by driving the pirates to their last entrenchments. Our elder resigned. But, we must fight because we gave up everything else for music. God does not help the one who folds the arms and wait… I am sure that with the support of the music lovers and the mobilization of the journalists, the producers, the authorities, the customs officers, the safety forces, etc, we can overcome piracy ", prescribes Maria. In spite of the difficulties to which she is frequently confronted, Sadio clings to her passion and love. "I want to succeed in order to better support my family and my close relations. And Thanks to God and to the blessings of my parents, I already manage to provide for my needs and to support my family ", recognizes the elegant girl with the bewitching charm. About twenty and at the door of the conjugal life (she’s engaged), Sadio positions herself as one of the best hopes of the Malian music. Her talent and her serious do not escaped to the percussionist and choreographer François Dembélé who has just trusted in her for an artistic experiment with his company, "Santoro". And the natural gifts of Maria as well as her moral and social qualities already open her the doors towards success, notoriety, social success … glory! |
